What’s On: Redemption Wednesday

Survivor, a double dose of Criminal Minds and a new stack of fresh ABC wednesday comedies, including the much, MUCH anticipated return of Shelly Long to Modern Family, make up our recommendations for tonight, Wednesday February 16, 2011.

The Best:

Survivor Redemption Island (aka Rob vs. Russell) Premiere 8:00 on CBS

I’m not super-crazy about this redemption island twist but I am crazy about Rob and Russell coming back. I’d align with Russell so fast cause he’d get me to the end and sabotage his own social game. I have a feeling that at least one of them will get to the jury. This is Hantz’s third outing and Mariano’s fourth. I’m all for returning cast member but this seemed a little desperate.

The Middle “Friends, Lies & Videotape” 8:00 on ABC

“Actress” Kristen Cavallari guest stars on the middle tonight as Axl’s hot biology teacher Ms. Deveraux. Axl and his friends snap secret footage of the Hills star to put in their music video. Also Mike forbids Sue from seeing a rated R movie so she goes behind his back and does it anyways. Wow Sue, I didn’t know rebel matched gigantic yellow sweater. No promo just an awesome picture.

Modern Family “Princess Party” 9:00 on ABC

Cam and Mitchell throw Lily a princess party which is crashed by Jay’s ex-wife DeeDee (guest star Shelly Long) who appeared in the fourth episode of the series, The Incident, which till now is still my favorite. Matt Dillon also guest stars tonight as an ex of Claire’s and her mother’s current BF. Also Cameron becomes Fizbo again.

Criminal Minds “Today I Do” 9:00 on CBS

A cray lady (Rebecca Fields) kidnaps a gal named Molly (Rachel Miner, Californication) who’s father is played by Psych and L.A. Law’s Corbin Bernsen. Also Prentiss (Paget Brewster) receives som troubling news about a former Interpol colleague, no doubt setting up her exit at the end of the season.

Series Premiere Alert!

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior “” 10:00 on CBS

The backdoor pilot last season was a little interesting I guess, but I wonder how this plans to separate itself from it’s predecessor. It’s oscar winner Forrest Whitaker’s turn to join other well respected film actors jumping to TV to lead mystery solving teams. The team which includes Beau Garrett (Valerie the psychopath from last year’s Remorse episode of House), Janeane Garofalo (24), Brit Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly (Generation Kill) and Kristen Vangsness who is currently starring on both this and the mothership.

Justified “The Life Inside” 10:00 on FX

Justified’s second season premiere was a hoot and a holler. I loved Margo Marindale as the matriarch of the Bennetts and Jeremy Davies was perfectly creepy as the middle son, I also thought Chris Mulkey’s performance was particularly good. Tonight has Raylan escorting a pregnant lady to the doctor or something.

Hot in Cleveland “I Love Lucci, part 1” 10:00 on TVLand

Victoria (Wendie Malick) encounters Susan Lucci for the first time since moving to Cleveland and as you can see by the picture, it’s a battle over the emmy in the same dress. Hilarious.

But that’s not all folks, here’s the rest of what tonight has up it’s sleeve:

American Idol 8:00 on FOX – Idol begins it’s two hour blocks of episodes.

Minute To Win It 8:00 on NBC – They have one minute. To win. It.

Better With You 8:30 on ABC – The family commiserates upon a bad-luck leather jacket.

Mr. Sunshine 9:31 on ABC – Not nearly as stellar as the pilot but still funny. Watched it yesterday. Alison Janney sure is charming.

Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit 10:00 on NBC – Something something violent new york something.

Off The Map 10:00 on ABC – Terrible terrible TV.

Top Chef 10:00 on Bravo! – I’m pulling for Antonia even though it’s gonna go to Blais or Angelo.

Retired at 35 10:30 0n TVLand – George Segal and Jessica Walter collect cheques.

That’s all for tonight folks check back tomorrow for more on Survivor and your other faves!
