ABC picks up 7 Dramas, 5 Comedies!
In a grand gesture ABC granted life to 12 series today, showing that they are indeed trying to make it 2004 again. Not getting pick-ups are Mark Cherry’s supernatural musical Hallelujah and Poe, which was pretty much Castle in the 18th century.
Good Christian Belles formerly Bitches is a Desperate Housewives type dramedy about a woman (Leslie Bibb) who returns home to her gossipy town. Kristen Chenoweth co-stars, sounds like a good partner for Housewives now that Brothers and Sisters is gone.
As expected the reboot of Charlie’s Angels starring Minka Kelly, Annie Izoleh and Rachael Taylor got a pickup. As did Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal, about a PR firm starring Kerry Washington and Henry Ian Cusick (Lost). Also getting pickups were Revenge starring Emily VanCamp (Everwood, Brothers and Sisters) which is a modern spin on the Count of Monte Cristo and the supernatural mystery drama, The River.
And because everyone has to copy eachother, ABC picked up the 60’s set Pan Am starring Christina Ricci a soap about flight attendants, similar to NBC’s 60’s set Playboy Club and Once Upon A Time starring Jennifer Morrison and Ginnifer Goodwin, a fairy tale drama similar to NBC’s Grimm, but more serialized where Grimm will be more of a procedural.
Tim Allen is returning to ABC in Last Man Standing which along with Apt 23 (formerly known as Don’t Trust The Bitch in Apt 23) starring The Good Wife’s Dreama Walker and Veronica Mars’ Kristen Ritter, were the first to be picked up. Also picked up was Suburgatory, a sitcom starring Law & Order’s Jeremy Sisto in his first foray into comedy along with the cross-dressing sitcom Work It. And finally ABC granted life to Man Up a sitcom by writer/actor Christopher Moynihan. His previous effort, an NBC sitcom called 100 Questions was possibly the worst sitcom I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Ever. I hope this never sees the light of day!
I’ll keep the updates coming!
