The TV gods see fit to offer us two premieres tonight (not so bad for a night without Fringe) One, a CIA action dramedy from Brett Ratner called Chaos and two, a soapy take on Arthurian legend on Starz called Camelot, which along with your weekly fix of Joel McHale are our recommendations for tonight, Friday April 1 2011.
Chaos “Pilot” 8:00 on CBS
The plot: The director of the CIA places an agent (Freddy Rodriguez, Six Feet Under’s Rico) on a team of rogues (including Without a Trace’s Eric Close and The Incredible Hulk’s Tim Blake Nelson) so he can collect information to get them fired. Doens’t sound terrible (it even looks kinda fun) but a April start date never bodes well. The cast includes Red Foreman himself Kurtwood Smith and the pilot is directed by much maligned and hated director Brett Ratner. And oh yeah, it guest stars MARGO MARTINDALE, whos currently stealing every scene on Justified.
Camelot “Episodes 1 & 2” 10:00 on Starz
The first of three medivel themed series premiering in April; Starz takes on The Once and Future King, Arthurian Legend, Merlin, Excalibur, The knights of the round table and the Pendragon line with Camelot. Early word finds the series soapy, lustful and fun, but made of ‘common clay’ i.e. nothing special. I’ll tune in at least to the premiere tonight – What else am I gonna do? Fringe isn’t on. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower (New Moon, AMC’s The Prisoner), Joseph Fiennes (Flashforward, Shakespeare in Love), Claire Forlani (CSI:NY and Mallrats) and Eva Green (Vesper Lynd in 2006’s Casino Royale).
The Soup “The Soup Awards” 10:00 on E!
Joel McHale gives out awards. Sure to be amazing. It’s a double episode too, so set your DVR accordingly. Check out a clip from a few years ago’s award show.
Corey Parker Robinson (The Wire’s Leandor Sydnor) and Jim True-Frost (The Wire’s Roland “Mr Prez” Pryzbylewsk) guest star tonight. AMAZING! The Good Wife had one two weeks ago with Bodie (JD Williams) Chris Partlow (Gbenga Akinnagbe) and Nick (Pablo Schrieber) and last season Jim True Frost was on an episode of Fringe with Lance Reddick (Daniels). MORE PLEASE!
Shark Tank 8:00 on ABC – I like Dragon’s den better. Mark Cuban belongs with the other douches on Entourage.
Who Do You Think You Are? 8:00 on NBC – Who does Gwyneth Paltrow think she is? British.
CSI:NY 9:00 on CBS – Jo’s professional and personal life get mixed up tonight. I wish I cared that Sela Ward was on TV.
The Ricky Gervais Show 9:00 on HBO – I don’t get it.
Real Time with Bill Maher 10:00 on HBO – I get it, but I resent it.
