What’s On: Teach and Chong Sunday!

Hank Moody on Trial! Cheech and Chong on The Simpsons! Penultimate Big Love! Crazy Celebs! Kynt & Vyksin! It’s gonna be a Hot Sundae! Here are our recommendations for tonight, Sunday March 13th 2011.

What’s Fresh:

The Simpsons “A Midsummer’s Nice Dream” 8:00 on FOX

When I read the words “Teach and Chong” in FOX’s press release for tonight’s Simpsons, I died. The concept of Principal Skinner and Tommy Chong touring as Teach and Chong, and Homer and Cheech touring as Cheech and Chunk is just as close to perfect as I can ask for from current Simpsons, and a B-plot featuring the CAT LADY in her first prominent plot since her first appearance in the 1998 ninth season classic “The Girly Edition“. I still remember dying the first time Eleanor Abernathy popped up. Check it out below (cause stupid Fox doesn’t have a delicious promo)

Californication “The Trial” 9:00 on SHO

Californication’s first season was brilliant. It’s second was a muddled mess. It’s third was a parody of itself. I sat through two crap seasons of this because of my deep love for first and the hope that one day it would be good again. And it is. I came into this season with low expectations and week after week I’ve been blown away. Duchovny is fantastic, he’s less of a caricature this season and the Runkles aren’t just a carnie freakshow joke, and finally the life Hank leads is beginning to have a profound effect on his teenage daughter (a never better Madeline Martin). I’m loving Carla Gugino as his lawyer and was blown away by Callie Thorne’s guest spot. Check out a scene from tonight’s episode where Hank sits trial for the statutory rape the occurred in the pilot.

Big Love “Exorcism” 9:00 on HBO

No promo for tonight’s penultimate Big Love, not even a synopsis or a pic. Just a title; Exorcism. I bet that has to do with Alby. Speaking of Alby, did anyone else think Nicki was a goner last week? Tune in as the farewell begins.

Breakout Kings “Collected” 10:00 on A&E

I actually liked the pilot quite a bit, I thought it was a lot of fun. It was byno means revolutionary or groundbreaking but fun in an A-Team-Leverage sort of way. I still haven’t forgiven Herc for what happened to Randall (no, I can’t separate other shows from The Wire – to me Michael Lee is kickin’ it in Bev Hills, Cedrick Daniels is running Fringe Division and Omar ain’t dead, he’s just makinh hooch in 20’s) but watching Lombardozzi play a shamed cop helps quite a bit actually. Jimmi Simpson (Liam McPoyle on It’s Always Sunny…) works as the comic relief, his racism felt a little forced in the pilot, but Simpson more of less made it work. Serinda Swan (Tron:Legacy and Smallville’s Zatanna) replaces Nicole Steinwedell (The Unit) who played the lady teammate in the pilot. Jamie McShane (Son’s Of Anarchy’s baby kidnapper Cameron Hayes) is the MIA criminal of the week.

The Rest:

The Amazing Race 8:00 on CBS – One team is gonna go CUCKOO tonight. Get ready for a primo meltdown!

America’s Next Great Restaurant 8:00 on NBC – The worst part is that I would eat at almost every finalists place.

Secret Millionaire 8:00 on ABC – The millionaire du jour has a hard time with his 50 dollar budget which he refers to as Tic Tac money.

Bob’s Burgers 8:30 on FOX – I am in love with this cute series and it’s infectious theme song.

Army Wives 9:00 on Lifetime – Claudia Joy gets an enticing offer from her professor (guest star Harry Hamlin)

Celebrity Apprentice 9:00 on NBC – LaToya Jackson’s face looks straight up scary. I am so excited to watch celebrities melt down while raising money collectively for charity.

Undercover Boss 9:00 on CBS – United Van Lines Boss goes UC.

The Cleveland Show 9:30 on FOX – The fact that FOX couldn’t give American Dad a slot tonight really grinds my gears. Screw Cleveland Show. It sucks. WHERE’S AMERICAN DAD?

CSI:Miami 10:00 on CBS – Tonight Horatio and Co. hunt people who hunt the most dangerous game of all… … … MAN. I’m not kidding. This is one to watch for the casual viewer as it promises to be HILARIOUS!

Shameless 10:00 on SHO – I thought the casting of Chloe Webb (China Beach and Sid and Nancy) was inspired. In fact after having watched last week’s heartbreaking epic-sode I can’t imagine another actress in the role. She brought out the best in Emmy Rossum and I can’t wait to see what other trouble she causes. Check out a scene from last week’s episode as a treat! And catch you tomorrow for more recaps and reviews.
