Now I know last week it was “Parks & Rec” Thursday, but my joy is so overwhelming I can’t contain it, and thusly; today is also Parks & Recreation Thursday. There’s also a whole slew of other stuff on, no CBS or ABC series, but more Idol and plenty of cable series. Here are our recommendations for tonight, Thursday January 27, 2011.
Vampire Diaries “The Descent” 8:00 on The CW
Have you seen the billboard ads for Vampire Diaries? The PTC must be having a field day. I’m mad excited for VD’s return tonight, I know the whole episode will be a “will she or won’t she die” and that Rose (guest Lauren Cohan, Supernatural), who we last left with a nasty bite courtesy of the new Werewolf in town, Jules (guest Michaela McManus, One Tree Hill), will probably die by the episodes end, but I’m still excited for tonight. Also! Tyler gets closer to Caroline which doesn’t sit well with Matt – easily the most interesting Vampire-Werewolf-Human love triangle out there.
Bones “The Bullet in the Brain” 9:00 on FOX
A Dierdre Lovejoy guest spot two days in a row? Color me delighted! Lovejoy (ADA Rhonda Perlman on The Wire, and last night’s Criminal Minds) returns to Bones tonight as Heather Taffet aka The Gravedigger, one of the Jeffersonian Team’s most notorious nemeses. One the way to her final appeal she gets taken out by a sniper bullet, making Booth and Temperance’s dad, Max Keenan (guest star Ryan O’Neal) the prime suspects. Looks really good!
Parks & Recreation “The Flu” 9:30 on NBC
Last week’s premiere was hi-wait for it-larious. I would never say it was worth the wait, cause in a perfect world, NBC’s thursday night comedies (minus Couples and Outsources) would be on daily like soap operas. The Pyramid of Greatness was especially great (I’ve posted it below). Tonight a flu sweeps through Pawnee. I’m sure it’ll be amazing, but I’m most excited for Feb 10 which brings the return of Megan Mullally (Nick Offerman’s wife) as Ron’s ex-wife Tammy.
Season Premiere Alert!!!
Archer “Swiss Miss” 10:00 on FX
Now that FX’s animated spy series returns tonight, people can get a double dose of star H. Jon Benjamin’s voice, he currently plays two titular characters (Bob of Bob’s Burgers). Archer is at its best, a hilarious spy comedy, and it it’s worst it’s only guilty of trying too hard to wring laughs out of a dead joke. The rest of the cast is great too, Arrested Development alums Jessica Walter and Judy Greer are terribly funny. SNL’s Chris Parnell and Aisha Tyler (Ghost Whisperer, 24) round out the cast.
30 Rock “Operation Righteous Cowboy Lightning” 10:00 on NBC
Last week’s 30 Rock was among the season’s strongest, Lis as Mrs. Donaghy was fantastic, her Grey-Gardens impression killed me and Angie Jordan’s (Sherri Shepherd) proposed reality show, Queen of Jordan, was one of the funniest things I’ve seen. Tonight has Liz taking advantage of the reality shows crew. In lieu of a promo for 30 Rock, I give you the promo for Queen of Jordan!
American Idol 8:00 on FOX – How sad was the Chris Medina’s audition last night? I’m mos def not the only one who shed a tear. Do I feel manipulated? Sure but thats what Idol is! Idol has never shied away from jerking the tears. Check it out below if you missed it!
Community 8:00 on NBC – Community was also super-strong last week, tonight; Annie organizes a production to educate about drugs for a local middle school. I’m sure the group sill co-operate and make this easy for Annie, right?
Wipeout 8:00 on ABC – You have no excuse to watch this. None.
Shit My Dad Says 8:30 on CBS – This either.
Perfect Couples 8:30 on NBC – Also this, but it’s still early it could get better.
Nikita 9:00 on CW – Nikita is back, and the series comes back since it’s been retooled. Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) is now a graduate and out in the real world, and Nikita’s mission just got a lot easier with Alex and her able to speak without the use of a computer.
The Office 9:00 on NBC – Who cares what tonight is about? WILL FERRELL IS COMING! But if you must know, Andy holds a business seminar to increase sales and Michael and Holly turn it into an improv competition.
Royal Pains 9:00 on USA – Come watch sitcom killer Mark Feuerstein is in a series that has a second season for the first time in 8 years.
Fairly Legal 10:00 on USA – I really like the pilot for this legal series. The insanely hot Sarah Shahi really works in this role. Peppy and belligerent are more welcoming on her then morose and bitchy like she was in NBC’s Life. Check it out!
For those who don’t know yet, Jersey Shore was picked up for a 4th season which will take the team to Italia. I’m pretty sure only Vinny can speak Italian and Jenny is Irish, but okay, still sounds good to me.
Jersey Shore 10:00 on MTV – Awww Poor J-Woww, last week was so sad, but I took comfort in her dogs’ cuteness (they are sooooo cute).
