I’m super-pumped today, I had a great night of TV last night – Good Wife was tense and the battle between Will and Diane got downright nasty, V was solid which was a nice surprise, and Courtney on The Biggest Loser just melts my heart – and I’m stoked for tonight which has interesting guest appearances from an Oscar winner to both Chloe and Morris O’Brien (separately though) and a double dose of a man called Chance. Here are our recommendations for tonight, Wednesday January 12 2011.
Hot Stuff Comin’ Through:
Human Target “Imbroglio” & “Cool Hand Guerrero” 8:00 – 10:00 on FOX
Human Target is one of a few very entertaining genre series in serious jeopardy of being cancelled and it’s a shame. I’ve been enjoying the second season of Human Target more than the first, I guess as much as I loved the boy’s club of that composed the team in the first season, Ilsa Pucci is a fine addition to the series (I’m indifferent to Ames) and Indira Varma classes up the joint with her refined yet slightly zany performance. There’s only three episodes left this season (after tonight) I just hope Fox doesn’t close up shop after those. Tonight first has the team rescuing Ilsa’s sister at an opera (with guest star Carlo Rota, Morris O’Brien on 24), the second hour has Guerrero being framed for murder. They’ll be fun – check ’em out!
Modern Family “Our Children, Ourselves” 9:00 on ABC
Did you see the Funny or Die video with Sofia Vergara, Riki Lindhome and the cast of Glee? It was pretty good. Tonight has Phil and Claire trying to get Alex to relax about studying, Gloria tries to make friends with another couple and Cameron and Mitchell run into Mitchell’s old girlfriend (played by Mary Lynn Rajskub, Chloe O’Brien on 24). The episode is directed by Hairspray director and SYTYCD judge Adam Shankman. The promo below looks hilarious.
Cougar Town “A Thing About You” 9:30 on ABC
Laurie moves in with Jules, which will probably be awesome as Laurie and her portrayer, Mathilda Ledger’s godmother Busy Philips is awesome. Laurie is in my humble opinion the funniest character on the show (although arguments could be made for most of the cast being the funniest). Also tonight Bobby becomes jealous when Travis goes to Grayson for advice instead of him.
Series Premiere Alert!
Off The Map “Saved by the Great White Hope” 10:00 on ABC
A new medical series created by Jenna Bans (Desperate Housewives) and exec produced by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy) takes ABC’s medical drama meets soap opera winning format to the South American jungle. This series stars Martin Henderson (Britney’s Toxic video and The Ring), Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy), Caroline Dhavernas (returning to primetime for the first time since Wonderfalls), Rachelle Lafevre (Twilight and New Moon), Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter who nailed it in 2 Good Wife episodes last year), Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen from Friday Night Lights) and Valerie Cruz (Nip/Tuck, Dexter and True Blood). The cast is surprisingly above par for a new series and seem like they’re on their game – it’ll be interesting to see if Shonda can score a hat trick.
But that ain’t all folks, here’s the rest of what tonight has to offer:
The Middle 8:00 on ABC – This is an underrated gem.
Live To Dance 8:00 on CBS – Watch Paula Abdul be a clear and coherent judge. (Seriously)
Better With You 8:30 on ABC – Doesn’t really fit in with the other three laugh-track less sitcoms on ABC tonight, but it has a funny cast and some good jokes.
Chase 9:00 on NBC – I predict the chase will end soon.
The Defenders 10:00 on CBS – I just saw Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer in which a bald James Belushi had a great cameo.
Top Chef: All Stars 10:00 on BRAVO – The producers nailed it with casting for their All-Star season. Each elimination has been harder than the last and the challenges are intense.
Law & Order: SVU 10:00 on NBC – Oscar winner Jeremy Irons guest stars (so does recent Criminal Minds firee A.J. Cook).
It looks like tonight has something for every taste tonight, what’ll you be watching?
