What’s On: Sunday

It’s sunday, the weekend is drawing to a close, you got work tomorrow and you deserve to watch only the finest – with that in mind here are our recommendations for tonight, Sunday November 21st, 2010.

The Best:

Family Guy “Brian Writes a Bestseller” 9:00 on FOX

Brian writes a book and gets to be a guest on Bill Maher in a rare (but not never) live segment for the show. It’ll probably a quality half hour so it’s worth checking out even if your a casual Family Guy watcher. Don’t have a promo for you sadly – but I do have a promo of my favorite crossover of this decade.

Boardwalk Empire “The Emerald City” 9:00 on HBO

I’m just finished last week’s episode as I began to write this column, so I’m super-excited for tonight’s antepenultimate episode. With last week ending with an attempt on his life, tonight the war between Nucky and Rothstein continues to ramp up. Tonight we get a lot of Jack Huston as the faceless assassin Richard Harrow but even more of Agent Nelson Van Alden – Michael Shannon’s uber-vigilant nutcase Fed. Van Alden is by far the series’ most interesting character. Staunch in his beliefs, unrelenting in his battle against alcohol yet his morals wave in the face of his wife, with whom his relationship is really intriging – I want more and apparently I get it tonight.

Dexter “Teenage Wasteland” 9:00 on Showtime

Last week’s installment was the season’s best so far – so let’s hope tonight keeps the upward trend going. Tonight Debra’s stuck in the file room, while Dex and Lumen have a surprising visitor. The real reason to tune in tonight is Peter Weller’s increasingly creepy troublemaker Liddy. He’s on Dexter’s case and it doesn’t look like he’s gonna let up, as a disgraced cop, he sees this as redemption. He’s a creepy awesome unstoppable force and I cant wait to see where it goes.

Futurama Holiday Spectacular 10:00 on Comedy Central

Tonight is the last Futurama of 2010, a 90 minute three parter by the looks of it. The last new episode aired on Sept. 2nd, the blurb from comedy central reads “In this festive three-part episode, the Planet Express crew races to preserve the traditional practices of the classic holidays of Xmas, Robanukah and Kwanzaa. Along the way, they encounter the murderous Kringlebot, Al Gore’s Head-In-A-Jar, mutated pine trees, droidls, fembot wrestling, albino humping worms, Kwanzaabot and giant space bees, all while learning the true meaning behind the holidays…with an occasional song thrown in for good measure.” Don’t have promos – but I do have this which sums up the Futurama holiday feelings.

Walking Dead “Vatos” 10:00 on AMC

After last weeks talkier episode I can barely contain my excitement for tonight. Vatos is written by Walking Dead Comic Book creator Robert Kirkman so you can expect it to be heavy on the horror. I just. can’t. wait. Only two more after tonight.

BUT WAIT! There’s more! Here’s the rest:

The Simpsons 8:00 FOX – Mr Burns discovers he’s dying. It’s been a while since we had a Burnsie ep.

The American Music Awards 8:00 – 11:00 ABC – This instead of DH? Fine but for this week only.

The Cleveland Show 8:30 FOX – Cleve Jr. and Kendra (Squeal!) fight for Obese rights. Kendra is the best character on the show so me happy.

American Dad 9:30 FOX – Francie becomes a Comedienne. Good for her. But the real story is an actual plot line for the afterthought of a character, Klaus.

CSI:Miami 10:00 CBS – David Caruso flies around on a magic unicorn with a Genie and Weremaid (half werewolf half mermaid… Duh!) solving families’ problems. Fine maybe not – but that’s how realistic this show is.

What a night! Check back tomorrow for recaps and reviews.
